Mr. Luizzi

This quote exemplifies how the gigantic ego of Caesar allows him to find an exit out of otherwise impossible situations. Had any normal man been captured, or even someone such as Cassius, they would have immediately bowed to the pirates wishes. Any other man would have been intimidated by their captors and never would have dared to begin demanding such things as everyone being quiet while he slept. Also, Caesar seems almost insulted when the pirates only ask for a ransom of twenty talents. Instead of complying, he laughs and says he’ll increase it to fifty talents. Caesar is a leader and under no conditions listens to others. He treats his captors as if they are his own men. His huge ego knows nothing of fear or passiveness, only that he is above all. He is immortalized and god-like in his mind. This is similar to those humans in our world that think they are above the law or any other code that all others adhere to. It seems that these people’s only enemy is themselves. Their own way of thinking bringing their inevitable fall. Yet, before that time these people are on top of the world. So certain is this person, that they will prevail above all else that everyone else begins to doubt their own power and status. Soon everyone thinks that they are unequal to this person, and with the right combination of tactful politics this person can manipulate others to follow them.
